Schools are engaged in comprehensive and continuous planning efforts to develop, implement, and integrate activities to maximize resources for improved student performance. School improvement planning is designed to:
- identify student performance goals
- implement research-based strategies and interventions for increased student achievement based on learning standards
- assess and document success of improvement efforts
- provide professional development and support structures that result in student success.
Illinois schools have been required to develop plans since 1986. Illinois State Board of Education, Illinois higher education teacher training and educational policy programs, professional organizations, and accrediting groups offer school improvement planning assistance and best practice resources.
