Requirements for Continuing Professional Development

The new requirements for continuing professional development as a condition of certificate renewal involve actions by numerous parties. This summary of the requirements is presented in sections that will be relevant to those parties.

School Report Card

The school report card is a document that is produced for each regular public school in compliance with Section 10-17a of the Illinois School Code. With the passage of the federal No Child Left Behind law in 2001, report cards are also released for districts and the state.

School Improvement Process, Plans, and Tools

School improvement planning is an ongoing process for coordinating programs, activities and budgets and maximizing human, material, fiscal resources. Illinois Schools have been required to complete a school improvement plan (SIP) since 1986 [Illinois Code: 105 ILCS 5/2-3.63; 23 Illinois Administrative Code, 1.10; H.R. 1 (NCLB) Sec. 1116, p. 86.] Section 1.85 of 23 Illinois Administrative Code states that a “district with one or more schools on the Academic Early Warning List shall prepare a reviewed school improvement plan and submit it to the State Superintendent of Education for approval.” The ISBE has developed a rubric for this review and approval process.
